What is life like for Bob and Jen during COVID-19?

Introducing my grandparents, Bob and Jen. These two met in Jen's home town, Bandon, OR. As of now, Bob has been retired for about 10 years and Jen has been retired for about 18 years and has been living in Corvallis in the same house since the fall of 1985. In Bob's lifetime he has worked in fields picking berries in Washington, delivering newspapers, school custodian, teacher, pastor, and also worked in the forest service. He had also attended and graduated college. Needless to say he had many different jobs throughout his life and experience.

Jen had started out working as a secretary for the high school super attendant her senior year of high school. She decided to go to college and during the summers she went to work for the forest service as a fire lookout. After graduating college she began to teach for several years. She then took a break from working, and had four children. Finally, after her kids had grown up a bit, she went to work full-time at OSU in the admissions office for 15 years until she finally retired.

The meals on wheels comes to deliver Bob's lunch. Every day he receives his lunch, and he enjoys receiving his lunch by himself and greeting whoever it is that is delivering that day.

To keep the deliverer safe and also the couple that lives in this home (who are in a much higher risk zone than most of us) wears a mask and leaves the food on the desk. While briefly greeting each other. June 4 2020.

Jen sitting in her usual favorite spot next to the window, looking at a picture of her new great-grandson. She has not yet been able to hold the baby or physically see her great-grandson, due to doctors orders for the baby because of COVID-19.

This is her usual and favorite spot to be, because she can look outside and observe what is going on out there. This is also where you may also find her reading her books on her kindle, writing emails to family and friends. June 4 2020.

Nancy who is Jen's daughter, lives with them and helps take care of them. She takes Jen's blood pressure to make sure that it is high enough so Jen can take her medicine. Due to COVID-19 Bob and Jen are now unable to go to their usual doctor visits or check-ups. That means that they have to do it all at home. This is something that impacts their lives and changes how they are able to keep up with their health. Due to being in their 80's, it is very unsafe for them to venture out. June 4 2020.

Bob finishes his lunch and makes his way to the living room. His day usually consists of many naps, watching his favorite Tv shows, shuffling about the house, and petting his cats. He enjoys going to any and all garage sales, though now he unable to go, due to being limited to the house or close-by since COVID-19. June 4, 2020.

Jen and Bob who have been married for 60 years now, standing on the porch of their house. Where they both like to spend time, wrapped in blankets and a book in hand, or having lively conversations. Periodically they do get some social distanced visits with their oldest daughter on the porch. June 7, 2020.

Portrait of Jen. She was born in the depression era, and remembers as a kid looking up in the sky to check for bombers, and the day that WWII was declared over. Now, she goes through this time reading and keeping up with family news. The term, book worm, barely gives her any credit. She said, the first day of first grade she remembers being so excited that she was going to learn how to read; she will finally get to read all the books. She explained that she ended up later coming home devastated because she didn't learn to read in just one day. June 4, 2020.
